We were clear, a blind eye has been turned by the Independent, Plaid Cymru and Liberal Democrat Coalition over the last 4 years, as our school’s budgets have been whittled away. School budgets which had a total of over £12m in reserves when this Coalition came into leadership of the Council are projected to be some £8m in the red by the end of March 2026!
We asked them to put in a minimum of £8m to cover the deficit. Teachers and teaching assistants have already had to be made redundant. They are putting in £7m and making the fact that they are finally looking at the needs of our Schools a centre piece of their budget this year. Thats without clearly identifying the other issues for children being taught year after year temporary classrooms in the Swansea Valley, which Cllr Clement-Williams flagged up on behalf of these valley communities.
